Rush hour catastrophe

Motorists stuck in traffic for over an hour.

Orlando East was gridlocked earlier this morning as motorists, taxi drivers and bus drivers were stuck in traffic at the Mooki Street and Reverend Frederick Modise Road intersection.

The situation was so bad that drivers had to manoeuvre in the other streets closest to the main road to get to their destinations while Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers had to walk to the intersection to help.

It is still unclear what may have caused the major delay as traffic lights were working.

The JMPD spokesperson, Wayne Minnar said: “We are currently unaware of any problems or accidents in that area. In the mornings however, our officers are sent out to assist in areas where there are busy intersections to help ease traffic.”
