Three-year-old Luke Tibbetts has passed away, his family confirmed this on Friday afternoon.
Tibbetts was shot in the head by a stray bullet while sitting on his mother’s lap at the back of a vehicle transporting them in Westbury on Saturday in a suspected gang-related incident.
The incident sparked widespread outrage across the country and has prompted calls for harsher penalties to be taken against those who commit crimes against children.
Luke’s uncle Llewellyn Valentine earlier confirmed that the three-year old boy had died.
He said no machines were switched off and says the toddler died while on life support.
Valentine said the family had an opportunity to be at his bedside when he died.
His memorial service is expected to be on Wednesday.
