Education standards to be bettered

Gauteng Mayor Parks Tau, wants to make sure that the standard of education in townships is good.

Each One Teach One Foundation, the City of Joburg and the Province have launched the first chapter of the Zojazam Each One Teach One profile.

The event, at King Zwelithini Primary School, focused on establishing a working link with schools and educational facilitators around the Zojazam area.

Gauteng Mayor Parks Tau was there and said that the key theme of the event is to make sure that the standard of education in our townships is good.

President of the Each One Teach One Foundation, Makgane Thobejane, said that one of the factors that affect education is a level of poor governance in schools, gates not being locked and basics such as pupils not wearing the correct uniform.

One of the ways that the foundation aims to alleviate problems and improve on the standard of education is by understanding the issues faced by schools at ground level and involve community members in roles that the school cannot fulfil.

Zoliswa Nkosiyane, the chairperson of the co-ordinating committee of Each One Teach One Foundation, said that the foundation has plans in place to make sure that they improve the standard of education in the area.

“We plan to go to schools and get an understanding of what the schools need before they are reopened so as to make sure that the school term runs smoothly.

“We have also gone into agreement with the City of Joburg to introduce practical skills development through workshops and we will later incorporate these skills into the learning curriculum,”
