Hostel dwellers block roads

Traffic interrupted as protesters block roads.

The Sofasonke and Klipspruit Valley intersection was blocked by protesters this morning.

It is not clear what the protest is about however, residents from the Nancefield Hostel claim that they have not had electricity for some time.

“We are not sure what the protest is about, but yes the road was blocked,”said outgoing Kliptown Police, spokesperson, Nondumiso Mpantsha.

Metro police’s Wayne Minnaar said protesters closed off the road with rocks and tyres during the overnight protest.

He said the there was rubble and heavy rocks blocking the intersection.

He said motorists were advised to use Chris Hani, Elias Motsoaledi and Reverend Modise Roads.

Rea Vaya buses were also affected and had to use Chris Hani Road.
