I'm here to develop Gauteng – premier

Premier promises to refurbish community centres around Gauteng.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has promised that on his mandate as the new Gauteng premier, his first priority will be to develop and refurbish community centres such as community halls and clinics.

The premier was speaking during his spot check in some centres around Soweto and to examine what and where are the necessary improvements are needed.

The spot check is part of the Gauteng government’s new strategy of tackling service delivery challenges in public institutions in the province.

Makhura said this operation was the beginning of many spot checks of this nature and he assured that they will still visit other centres in Soweto without notifications.

“We are introducing the ‘active cabinet’ style of doing business. This means, provincial government officials and MECs will now spend more time in communities that are facing difficulties in accessing government services, with the view to finding lasting solutions.

“We want to make sure that our public servants are conducting themselves in a professional manner when dispensing their services to our people, we will continue to conduct these spot checks also in police stations, traffic license centres and all the relevant hot spots in order to improve service delivery for the benefit of our people.”
