Reading and Writing Club produces confident pupils

Help your child to have a brighter future.

After seeing the low level of reading skills at Nka Thuto Primary School in 2005, teacher Stella Mohulo decided it was time to take action.

She then formed a Reading and Writing Club for her pupils and since then she says there has been great improvement with her pupils.

Mohulo said: “I was troubled because as a teacher I knew that if my pupils could not read, they would not be motivated to study their books, they would not gain knowledge and they would have poor vocabulary. I thought of methods and ways of how I could make a difference in these children’s lives and that is when the idea of starting this group came to me.”

She said since then there has been change in the children as they are more confident and can read and write.

The group tackles tasks of reading, writing, spelling, storytelling and doing book reviews.

Mohulo says if parents can see that their children are struggling with reading and writing they can bring them to join the group.

The children meet with her on Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm at the Nka Thuto Primary School.

For more information on this, parents can call Mohulo on 072 977 7272.
