Woman in critical condition after being hit by taxi

Another pedestrian struck on Mooki Street.

Another pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Mooki Street on Tuesday.

The woman in her thirties was hit by a Quantum taxi as she was crossing the road.

She was crossing the road with her husband when she was hit.

“We were crossing the street, I was walking slightly in front of my wife. When I turned to look back at her I saw that she had been hit and was laying on the ground bleeding from the head,” he said.

Emergency Medical Services were at the scene soon after the woman was hit.

She was taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

The driver of the Quantum was driving on the Rea Vaya bus lane.

He was fined R 1000 for driving on the bus lane.

Solomon Dlamini who is a vendor alongside Mooki Street said he has witnessed many pedestrians being hit on Mooki Street.

“Taxi drivers don’t respect the road. They drive as if the road belongs only to them. It is rare I see a taxi driver stop on the pedestrian crossings. The sad thing is so many children cross this road to go to school daily,” he said.

The woman is in a critical condition this is according to her landlord Getty Nkone.
