‘Those who don’t adhere to the rules of the road will be penalised’

Pedestrians to be vigilant when crossing Mooki Street and New Canada Road.

With the high number of pedestrian injuries and fatalities on Mooki Street and New Canada Road, residents are urged to be more vigilant.

Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar urges pedestrians to cross the road on the pedestrian crossing lane.

“Motorists who do not stop at pedestrian crossings and at stop signs will be will be penalised. There is no excuse for not abiding to the rules of the road,” he said.

Minnaar said that Mooki Street is a busy road and it requires for residents to follow the rules of the road and to be more vigilant.

He said pedestrians must make use of the bridge on New Canada Road.

The spokesperson also said that motorists who drive on the Rea Vaya bus lane will be fined R1000.
