In addition to this, the 5km run will be used as a platform to develop junior runners as part of youth month celebration.

The contest will commence at 8am.

Boitumelo Mofokeng of Run Walk for Life Soweto said: “To enter the race, residents can register at the Elkah Stadium on Friday June 6 from 10am to 6pm and on the morning of the race, from 6am until 7:30am before the race starts.

“Each race will be charged at a certain fee depending on one’s age, therefor proof of age must be provided on demand.

“There will further be raffle draws, eat-out vouchers and race prizes will be up for grabs for the top three runners to finish in all categories in 10km distance.”

Mofokeng said she promises that everyone will go away with something that will remind them of this race.

She said the race will not only focus on the event but it will correspondingly be celebrating Cancer Survivors and Fathers’ Day.

The Lelethu Gymnastics Club with its members as young as 5-years-old will be present and entertain the spectators with their art form.

Pupils from different schools are invited to enter with their families and teachers to showcase their schools love for sport and residents in the area are invited to enter for the race as it will benefit their neighbourhood.

Refreshments will be sold on the day.
