Nurses recognised for their hard work and dedication

Patients provide feedback to help identify hardworking nurses.

Last Friday, Discovery Health launched the inaugural Discovery Excellence Awards for Nurses, which saw more than 30 nurses being recognised during the first round of the quarterly awards.

The awards are based on Discovery Health members’ feedback on their hospital stay and the nursing care they received.

The members’ feedback is obtained through the Discovery Health Member Experience Survey, which is emailed to Discovery Health members who are aged 18 and above after they have been discharged from a hospital admission.

The quarterly award winners are selected from the member responses, working together with the hospitals where the nurses are employed.

This initiative has seen a nurse from Tshepo-Themba Private Hospital Sister Nana Motloheloa and Themby Mathabela from Lesedi Private Hospital awarded R4000 cash prize, a gift box and a recognition certificate.

Risk manager at Discovery Health Vuyokazi Mnikathi congratulated the nurses for doing a wonderful job.

Mnikathi said hard quality work should always be recognised to motivate nurses and to do away with laziness which often leads to negative reporting over the media.

“We understood it well that this process is necessary since patients’ feedback is true and reflects on how they were being treated while in hospital,” said Mnikathi.
