School registration deadline is today

Late registrants may see their children having to travel far to get to school.

Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane has confirmed that today is the last day for parents to register their children for the 2015 academic year.

Sekhonyane urges parents to submit forms and documents back to schools no later than today.

GDE launched a Public School- Admissions Campaign on April 7 which its aim was to encourage parents to register their children who wish to start Grade 1 to Grade 8 in 2015.

Submission of application forms for pupil registration lasted from April 15 and ends today.

“We want to ensure that learning begins on the first day of schooling and that is why this process is necessary,” she said.

Sekhonyane said the department may have mercy on late registrants.

The department will assist parents with late applications.

“Late registration reduces the chances of parents getting the school of their choice,” said Sekhonyane.

Sekhonyane said pupils will then only be placed in schools where there is space available to them.
