'People infected and affected by HIV are our responsibility’

Health services are offered at no charge at government clinics.

HIV coordinator for Region D Tiny Monareng said during her address at a church in Dobsonville that people living with HIV are isolated in some families.

Monareng said families and friends should support those infected and affected by the virus.

“Being infected with HIV is not the end of life but it is the beginning of a new life on a different direction,” she said.

She said it is important to know your health status to be able to control it.

Monareng said government is taking responsibility by providing the sick with antiretroviral medication.

“People used to pay for government services before but now services are offered to them for free at clinics,” said Monareng.

She said the City has 29 clinics from which 15 are managed by the local municipality and 14 provincially managed.
