Jozi Writers showcase their work

Jozi Writers to shape pupils' lives.

Jozi Writers organization hosted a showcasing day where parents and residents witnessed what the organization is all about last Saturday at Emseni Primary School.

The showcase consisted of pupils from different schools singing and reciting some of their own work to parents.

Parents saw the importance of the organization not only as a way of keeping children away from the streets but saw this as an opportunity for their children to be great at something.

Zama Mbokane is part of Jozi Writers and she says she joined them because she had a burning interest I writing and what is most surprising is the fact that she is only in Grade Six.

Since joining Jozi, Mbokane wrote has written a short story titled ‘Isi Sindo Se Gama’ which interprets into; ‘The value and meaning behind a name’.

“When I first wrote this, it was something I had in mind for home work we were given but after dwelling more into the topic I started shaping my ideas into a story.

“It ended up being a form of expression for me, putting things in a certain way to speak to many people about something that is close to my heart,” Mbokane said.

Wilfred Khumalo is the chair person of Jozi Writers Association and he says the organization aims to develop the skill of writing.

“We encourages a generation of writers who can revive the culture of organizing creativity into something entertaining and profitable,” Khumalo said.

Nobuntu Dlomo is a parent of one of the participants of Jozi Writers and she said:

“Our current generation is running the risk of loosing the authenticity of our languages and I think what Jozi Writer is contributing positively towards that”.

Gugu Mthimkhulu is a facilitator of the organization and she says that the organization also needs volunteers who can assist in running some of the programmes the organization is offering
