Five residents get their RDP houses

Residents filled up Herbert Mdingi Hall to find out who would benefit from the 96/97 housing waiting list.

Residents filled Herbit Mdingi Hall in Orlando East in anticipation of the announcement of those who would receive beneficiary letters for RDP houses.

This public meeting followed the engagement between the housing provincial government and the residents on housing projects and discussion of 1996 & 1997 housing list on April 10.

Five residents received beneficiary letters and it was announced that the moving process would begin from May 15-16.

“The moving process is officially supposed to start in August however, we will gradually move some residents before August. We know five residents is not a lot but we will have more meetings in the weeks to follow where we will hand out more beneficiary letters,” said MMC Ruby Mathang.

Ward 30 Councillor Sechaba Khumalo told residents to be patient through this process.

He said that the moving process is not only happening in ward 30, but throughout Soweto.

Betty Ngwenya (50) one of the beneficiaries said she is overjoyed with the news that she is finally going to move in her new RDP house.

“I can’t believe that this day has finally come I am so happy,” she said.

The five beneficiaries will be moving to Fleurhof.
