Nursing college scam exposed

The Dept. of Health has exposed a scam through text that is targeting people who applied for nursing college.

The Gauteng Department of Health is warning the public about a scam run by a recruitment agency.

According to the spokesperson for the Department of Health Simon Zwane, the agency is allegedly sending text messages demanding money from those who applied to study nursing at the province’s colleges.

“The text message claims that the application has been successful and the recipient has to pay R150 as an administration fee.

The department is calling on all those applicants not to pay anyone to secure space at any of our nursing colleges as no cost is involved in the recruitment process,” he said.

Zwane said that the applications are already closed.

“The selection process which involves short listing of candidates, psychometric test and interview is currently underway and those selected will be called to participate, those successful will only be informed in November 2014 and even then, they will bear no cost.
“I encourage victims of this scam to report the matter to the police so the allegations can be thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book,” he said.

Complaints can be submitted through a 24 hour call centre which is 0860 011 000.
