Residents queue to cast their votes

Residents bare the long queues to cast their ballots.

There was a long queue at Kgatelopele Secondary School voting station in the early hours of yesterday morning when voting polls opened.

Though yesterday’s temperatures were cold, residents were already in the queue from early morning in most of Bramfischer’s voting stations.

An upheaval almost aroused at Kgatelopele voting station following an unexpected delay.

Voting began later than 7am as IEC staff staff were busy with setting up.

Presiding officer Eunice Hlungwane said voting at the district went well despite a few complications in the beginning.

Hlungwane said some of the voters flocked to other voting stations to avoid the long queue around midday.

During voting, the elderly were put first in the line to vote.

“We thank all voters who cooperated with us during the hours spent voting,” said Hlungwane.

At other voting stations found in Dobsonville, Bramfischer and Doornkop no act of violence was reported.

Police and JMPD officers were deployed at most of these polling stations.

This was confirmed by Dobsonville communications officer constable Mzwakhe Xazi.

Xazi said a full media release will be issued tomorrow regarding the elections.

The elderly received preference not to stand in the queue.
