Zola – Jabulani Hospital open

New hospital will ease pressure in Soweto.

The long awaited Zola – Jabulani District Hospital has finally been officially launched with the opening being graced by Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane together with the MECs for Infrastructure Development, Qedani Mahlangu.

The R 730 million hospital was built with the idea of alleviating pressure from the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

The Zola Jabulani district hospital has been capacitated with more 300 beds

The new hospital will provide maternity services, radiology, gynaecology, obstetrics, post – natal and will also offer out patient departments.

This hospital is intended on providing services to the north and western communities in Soweto which include Dobsonville, Emndeni, Meadowlands, Moletsane, Mofolo, Zola, Naledi, Tladi, Jabulani, Bram Fischerville and Protea.

District hospitals function to provide support to health workers in clinics and other community health services, this means that the hospital provides first level care for a specific district.

Our hospital will also function as places of referral from clinics, so if a patient needs facilities which are not available at a clinic, then they would be sent to the Jabulani – Zola District Hospital to be treated.

The fact that it is a district hospital also means that the hospital may also refer patients to higher levels of care if necessary.

The building has supporting structures which include Four workshops, laundry, a bulk-storage facility, kitchen, waste management, substation, security room and a mortuary.

R49.7 million has been spent on medical equipment with 26 doctors, 451 nurses, 36 allied professionals, 148 admin staff and 241 supporting staff employed and recruitment is still on- going.
