Residents of Tladi Informal Settlement demand services

Residents unhappy about their living conditions.

Residents in Tladi Informal Settlement were gathered in an open space, hosting a public meeting because they are unhappy about their living conditions and appeal to the government to intervene and help make life better.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) proportional representative councillor Given Mogana was doing round checks around the community and took note of problems residents were going through.

The public meeting came when Mogana was giving a feedback report and taking a petition to appeal to municipality to assist with services such as electricity.

Both the DA and the African National Congress (ANC) council representatives were present and addressed the community accordingly.

ANC councillor Mahlomola Kekana said that residents who occupy the area were supposed to have been moved to a different area because the area they occupy is a wet land area.

“The issue of electricity is being looked into, an appeal has been given to Eskom and we are waiting for them to come and preform a feasibility study to see if electricity can be installed in the area.

“The electricity is only for the mean time but our main issue is to make sure that there aren’t any people living in this area,” Kekana said.

Residents on the other hand are not satisfied with Kekana’s response to their issues.

Vusi Tshabalala is a resident in Tladi informal settlement and says that there is no water and electricity and that makes life difficult.

“Our children cannot develop like other children in other locations because they don’t even know what a television is, we cannot use phones and we share both a communal tap and toilet.

“The worst thing is that the toilets don’t even work, they are always dirty and we feel very unsafe when we have to use it at night.
