Dumping site cleaned

Residents must use allocated dumping sites for dumping.

Zone 10 Councillors (Noordgesig, Diepkloof and Orlando East) along with ANC volunteers held a cleaning campaign last Wednesday at a dumping site at NG Kerk opposite ZCC Orlando East.

The drive was aimed at fostering cleaner environments for residents and also the creation of green clean environment in the neighbourhoods.

“This is a launch we plan on going to different wards and promoting a cleaner environment. We also want to talk to residence about the effects of dumping,” said ward 31 Councillor Bongani Dlamini.

Dlamini said that they also plan on paving the area after it has been cleaned to prevent future dumping.

He also said one of the reasons there is a lot dumping in Orlando is one household only has one bin and more than five tenants in one yard.

Ward 30 Councillor Sechaba Khumalo said that residents must use allocated dumping sites for dumping.

He said that residence must respect open areas and not dump.

“We are working on allocating an open area where residence will be allowed to dump at least once a week. In that way residence who wants to collect rubbish for recycling will be able to do so,” said Khumalo.
