MEC vows to continue fight against abuse

Pienaar family gets comfort.

The family of slain Christell Pienaar on Wednesday received a visit from the department of social development.

MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza offered her condolences to the family and vowed to continue fighting against drugs and women and child abuse.

“We will continue working with you (family and community) to ensure that violence against women and children will stop,” Mayathula-Khoza said.

The body of Pienaar was found last Wednesday in a veldt next to Silver Oaks Secondary School.

Member of parliment Vincent Smith also visited the family and said that he hopes justice will take its course speedily.

He said it should be men fighting against women abuse.

“As a man, it is very disturbing to see that another man can do this to a human being.
“It can’t be women that fight against abuse, I think it is time that men take a stand and say, not in our name will abuse happen,” Smith said.

Pienaar will be laid to rest on today.

The man who was arrested for her murder will appear in court on Friday.
