Councillor responds to resident's claims

Snake in the bushes.

A complainant by the name of Minki Sibiya said ‘enough is enough’ about the problems faced by residents at Mngadi Street, Dobsonville.

Sibiya who is a resident at this street said illegal dumping and dysfunctional street lights are two major problems.
“The last time street lights were working was last year, I reported the matter and they were fixed but only functioned for three weeks,” said Sibiya.

Sibiya said at night it is dark and it makes it difficult for people to walk out to the shops or to a neighbour.

“I am worried about the overgrown bushes and the dumping that is taking place there,” said Sibiya.

She said she once saw a snake in the bushes.

She claims to have visited the office of ward 48 councillor Jackie Lekgetho on numerous ocassions to report the matter but could not get hold of her.

The last time Sibiya visited the councillor’s office was in January.

“I’m pleading to the councillor to help address the problem urgently,” said Sibiya.

Lekgetho said she is aware of the problem.

She said residents continue to dump and it creates too much work for Pikitup.

“Pikitup has always been there to collect waste but people continue to dump and not the government and that’s the problem.
“This year I haven’t received any complaints, in fact I am busy addressing all service delivery challenges in my ward,” said Lekgetho.
