Community needs to participate in safety programmes

Police can't do it alone.

Communities need to take charge of their safety by joining community safety forums says the MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko.

Mazibuko said that the police cannot do all the work alone.

“Communities need to participate in making Gauteng a safer province. They can do this by joining Community Policing Forums, Community Safety Forums, and Men as Safety Promoters, Women’s desks or street committees,” she said.

Mazibuko said that community mobilisation is important.

“By bringing the community together, we have established one stop centres for victims of domestic and sexual violence, we launched the patroller programme and the police and the metro police have increased visibility in the community,” she said.

Mazibuko said that people need to volunteer in community safety programmes to make Gauteng a safer place to live.
