Hostel life should improve

Residents from Jabulani Hostel are unhappy about living conditions and want change.

Residents of Jabulani Hostel say they are unhappy of their living conditions and believe more can be done to make their lives better.

Ntothoko Mgabeni says his life has been sewerage, gravel and a deteriorating house ever since he has lived in the hostel.

Sbonelo Xaba says that his biggest problem with the hostel is the crime and a life style where people steal from each other and destroyed families by destructive behaviour.

According to Xaba, formal structures exist in the hostel and have been put in place to make sure that people’s issues are dealt with.

At the same time people need to attend meetings, voice their complaints and try to assist to improve living conditions.

Delane Mlambo is another resident who says unemployment is a persistent factor which makes it difficult for change to last.

“We go to these meetings but when we go back home and there’s no food, the meeting becomes pointless.

“That’s the reason why there is so much crime,” Mlambo said.

Xaba says that the hostel life is the kind of life that you make your own, the biggest challenge is finding room for improvement.
