Sowetans attend RAF road trip in numbers

The Road Accident Fund kicked off its road trip last Saturday at the YMCA in Orlando East. The RAF made its services accessible to residents.

The Road Accident Fund along with Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department was at the Young Men’s Christian Association last Saturday to assist residents with claims, settlements and also give information about the Road Accident Fund ( RAF).

The Road Accident Fund is responsible for providing appropriate cover to all users within the borders of South Africa. Rehabilitating and compensating persons injured as a result of the negligent driving of motor vehicles in a timely and caring manner.

Residents were educated about how to claim from the Road Accident Fund. They were informed that they can claim from funeral expenses, medical expenses, loss of income, loss of support and general damages (bodily injuries).

Johannesburg Metro Police Spokesperson Wayne Minnaar advised residents that when they are involved in a road accident they should always make sure that they write down the registration number of the car involved.

Residents were informed that they should claim directly with the Road Accident Fund (RAF) at its regional or hospital based offices, either by post or personally.

When residents claim they should have the following documents to be able to lodge a claim:

· Claim form completed by your doctor

· Certified copy of your identity document

· An affidavit by the claimant

· Traffic collision report

· Copies of hospital records

· Completed claims forms

· Proof of earnings or income

· All your contact details

Deputy Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, who was at the YMCA, said the event was as a momentous occasion and the good story which had to be told.

“While one member in the taxi industry pointed out Batho Pele was not just a slogan but gradually becoming a daily exercise at the RAF,” said Chikunga.

Residents had positive things to say about the event. “I have learnt so much about how the Road Accident Fund Works I am more informed and I now know which avenues to take when claiming,” said Lindiwe Sokhubo a resident,
