Pupils not pleased with methods of discipline

Cosas say all hell will break loose if Ray is back.

Meadowlands Journalist, Ray Nxumalo has been axed at Meadowlands High School after years of volunteering there.

Cosas regional chairperson, Tebogo Magasane, accuses Nxumalo of harassing pupils with his method of dealing with disciplinary issues at the school.

But some teachers say Nxumalo has been a great help with discipline at the school.

Nxumalo is a former pupil of the historic high school and has always declared his passion for development and the success of the school.

From 2002 he has been helping out at the school by dealing with such as matters as pupils bunking school and not wearing appropriate school uniform. At other times he has taught English.

Recently, Magasane says, Nxumalo told pupils to leave the premises of the school as a form of discipline and he believes in corporal punishment.

“We went to the acting had at the school, George Maluleke, and told him we want Ray gone.

“Who is he anyway because he is not a teacher?

“He orders girls to change their hairstyles and cuts their hair.

“He is not bringing any order here, he is corrupting the school.

“We have teachers to teach and discipline, we do not need him.”

Nxumalo says pupils should dress and look as if they are going to school and not as if they are “thugs or going to a party”.

“It is inappropriate for a child to have a hairstyle that looks like a peacock.

“All that I have been doing at the school is to discipline.”
