Abuse victims urged to speak-out

Reporting abuse will ensure that victims get professional help for their problems.

Last week, Mahambe Aids Foundation held a ‘break the silence’ drive aimed at encouraging and educating locals in Dobsonville about knowing their HIV status, reporting abuse and taking charge of their lives.

Promise Mainetja of the foundation said many people remain silent about their health status because they fear being neglected by people who should support them.

Mainetja said the drive not only looks at HIV but all social ills or issues that affect people daily.

“People should confide in people close to them or the police for help on any crucial matter.

She said ”Through these platforms we want to ensure that people are well informed on the things that happen in society and that professional help is always available at health institutes.

Mainetja said since many women get abused it is within us to stand against such actions as a community.

The foundation said it will continue to host health awareness events as the year progresses.
