Residents sick and tired of dumping site

Residents say they are sick and tired of the dumping on corner Adam and Masupa Street in Orlando East they say that this has been occurring for years and it seems it is getting worse.

Residents, ward committees, informal food venders and ANC members attended a meeting last Friday regarding the constant dumping at the corner Adam and Masupa Street in Orlando East.

Residents who live in the surrounding area of the dumping sight say that they have had this problem for years and it seems it is getting worse.

Lwazi September a resident who lives right opposite the dumping area on Adam Street said that it is inconsiderate for people to throw rubbish right outside their doorsteps.

“People need to practice “Ubuntu” how can someone throw rubbish right outside your yard, we have flies coming into our homes because of the dumping sight. I am sick and tired of this my family has been fighting this problem for years,” said September.

Ward committee member for Health and Social Development Gloria Sidyiyo said that an urgent memo has been written to Pickitup.

“The area is infested with rodents which are making the area look like a war zone,” said Sidyiyo.

She said that they have not found a proper way of keeping the area clean.

“We have unemployed youth who are willing to help only if they can get proper training on how to handle the community who will dump after they have cleaned,” said Sidyiyo.

The dumping area is right next to informal street vendors who are selling fruit and vegetables.

One of the street vendors said that it is a health hazard selling food right next to the rat infested area.

“We are sick and tired of this we try and keep the area clean but people keep on dumping,” said Thembi Madlala a vendor.
