New school library to promote literacy

Literacy to improve after library donation.

Sekwati Primary School staff is looking forward to introducing reading programmes for its pupils after the South African Rugby Union (SARU) officials supplied the school with a fully-stocked mobile refurbished library.

This donation forms part of the Boks for Books initiative.

Before the launch of the library, pupils were faced with the challenge of not having a library which was close to the school or their homes.

The staff now believes that the library will help them in improving their teaching as they are also looking at introducing reading programmes for the pupils.

Principal at Sekwati Primary School, Victor Matloga, said: “We are happy with the new library as it will promote more reading for our 220 pupils since the area has no library which is close by and accessible to them.

“This will also benefit us in the upcoming literacy programme the school is planning as we previously only had the Extra School Support Programme which is a project by the Department of Education to assist pupils with their homework after school.

“We hope this will encourage our pupils to read even outside of the classroom.”

Matloga thanked the Boks for Books initiative in partnership with ABSA and the Non-Profit Organisation Blue Groove Africa, who are the rollout partners of this project, for making this possible.
