School pupils warned of the dangers of nyaope

Rat poison, ARVs, dagga and heroin make up nyaope, medics said.

Dobsonville Shopping Centre and Westview Clinic embarked on a five day drug awareness campaign which lasted from February 24 to 28.

The awareness campaign was done at schools in the area and at the shopping centre.

Schools that were visited included PJ Simelane High, Forte High, Mezodo Technical, Makhoarane and Kelokitso Comprehensive School.

Customers who went to buy at the centre were asked to pledge by signing a register.

Signing the register meant that you are against the abuse of alcohol and the use of drugs.

Emily Mmelegedi of Westview Clinic said nyaope has become a common topic.

She said parents of nyaope users cry nonstop because of what their children have become.

“These guys will do anything to get money to buy drugs even if it means breaking into a house or killing.

Mmelegedi said” Nyaope is made up of four things; dagga, heroin, rat poison and ARV’s.

“We’ve heard of reports speculating that there are HIV patients who get robbed of their ARV’s by nyaope users.

Mmelegedi urged pupils not to take drugs or alcohol and should not be deceived into using them,” she said.
