Top achievers at Thaba Jabula

Award ceremony at Thaba Jabula Secondary rewarded excellence.

Top achievers received awards last Wednesday at Thaba Jabula Secondary School.

The ceremony was dedicated to rewarding those who outperformed their peers in the previous year.

Dressed to the nines, pupils, teachers and parents attended the assembly to celebrate excellence.

“I would like to welcome everyone that is here today,” said Kenneth Mphuma the principal of the school when he delivered his keynote address.

“I would like to encourage you to focus, especially the Grade 10 class, as a lot of your peers are deferring from their studies and focusing on things that don’t concern them,” he said.

He said the Grade 11 class needs to focus more if they want to be great students.

“To the matrics, the top performing pupil last year, Sesedima Langa used the same facilities that you are using today.

“So it is not impossible for you to achieve or even surpass his marks last year.

“We are aiming for a 100% and I see no reason why we can’t achieve this,” he said.

Another speaker was Musi Dibisi who made the pupils repeat his slogan: “The barries of today are clevers of tomorrow.”

“It is better to be an idiot today and grow up and be the smart one because you focused on your education and not on other things,” Dibisi said.

Boston Business Collage in Maponya Mall donated R40 000 to four girls towards their studies.

Solly Makhubela the regional chairperson of the Quality Learning Teacher Council (QLTC) said pupils need to strive to achieve the best marks they can possibly get.

“You need to know that education is everyone’s business,” he said.

He promised to give a bursary to the best performing pupil in 2014 from his foundation.
