Providing for the poor and underpriviledged

Anne Francis sacrifices for the love of others

Providing for the underprivileged by doing piece-jobs and from her husband’s meagre income, Anne Francis says it’s her passion to help the poor.

“I realised that there are people who really need help, I am doing this for them” Francis said.

She works with two other women who cook for their feeding scheme every Wednesday afternoon.

They feed over 70 children from Kliptown, the majority of them are orphans.

“Some of the children don’t go to school, some of them don’t have parents and rely on the feeding scheme for a meal,” said Francis.

She said that would be the only meal the children would eat for the day.

The women cook from a fire on the ground because they do not have a stove and cannot afford to buy one.

Francis collects second-hand clothing and gives it to the underprivileged.

She would previously collect money for families who couldn’t afford to bury their loved ones.

“Poverty and crime is very big in Kliptown, I try to do my part in reducing it but we really need help to keep the feeding scheme alive” Francis said.

The ladies go around the community collecting money and use it toward the feeding scheme.

“It is not easy feeding so many children but it’s worth it.

“The community of Mandela Square are always willing to contribute,” Francis said.

She is appealing for businesses and community to assist in help feeding those who are less fortunate.

“I couldn’t believe that the feeding scheme made it to the end of last year because I am also poor.

“I don’t want any gain from this, only to help those who are less fortunate,” Francis said.
