‘Drug dealers need to be dealt with’

Community wants to be rescued from drug abuse.

The newly-formed Meadowlands Local Drug Action Committee chairperson, Chris Mogatusi, said drug users should be dealt with for the fight against drugs to be successful.

The organisation is aimed at fighting drug use in the community.

Drug abuse is a huge problem among young people, especially nyaope that is a catalyst for crimes such as house burglaries and robberies.

“We know the people on drugs and we beat them up when they have stolen but we also know the drug dealers.

“What are we doing about the people selling drugs in our committees?” he said.

Mogatusi said it is time for the community to be defiant about eradicating drugs in the community.

“The young people in our communities are destroyed by the drug, when is this going to stop?”

The committee said residents know the drug dealers but are afraid to report them.
