Traffic leaves commuters stranded in the rain

Chaos as Soweto commuters struggle to move in traffic.

It was a disastrous morning for most Soweto residents on Wednesday as bad weather conditions and none operational traffic lights caused unbearable traffic at the intersection of Mooki Street and Soweto Highway.

The two streets were so crowded that some drivers even opted to change routes to try and arrive at their destinations on time.

Commuters flooded bus stops and taxi ranks, soaking in the rain as they patiently waited for transport.

However, buses, taxis and cars were stuck on the same spot for several minutes unable to move until traffic offers arrived to assist with the traffic control.

“We were stuck in one spot for close to an hour and arrived at work late because of the bad weather conditions and traffic lights not working.

“There was nothing we could do but to just wait and hope that the traffic would finally start flowing,” Thuleleni Ngcobo said.
