Small gifts make a big difference

Tswelopele Youth Development Agency gives back to the community.

Tswelopele Youth Development Agency in Central White City Jabavu (CWJ) hosted an event to give back to the community last week Saturday.

The event started with performances from arts groups from around CWJ followed by the main event of handing over clothes.

The clothes come from members of the organization and individual residents in the community who had used clothes they wanted to share.

Thabiso Sekabate is the content creator for the organization and says that the main focus of the organization is to develop marketable skills for the youth but also to make a difference in the community they work in.

“Since 2011 the organization has been mandated to provide skills and a platform for expressing societal issues but our participants all come from different backgrounds some of which need desperate assistance.

“One can only imagine what the rest of the community is going through, so we saw a need to intervene hence we tapped into all the resources we could find to make this possible,” Sekabate said.

Tshepiso Leburu received clothes and says the biggest challenge is the fear of being judged by others.

“Its not easy accepting difficult circumstances and humbling yourself enough to receive such a gift because its almost as though you letting people know what its like where you come from,” Leburu said.Other than fear, Leburu says she appreciates the clothes because buying her own is difficult and that the clothes don’t rot so she’ll never forget Tswelopele Skills Development Agency
