Eskom thanks residents

Eskom urges residents to keep on saving electricity.

According to Eskom the power system remains constrained but stable following last week’s call to reduce the load by a minimum of 10%.

According to Eskom communications officer, Lerato Nkosi, a few generating units were out for maintenance and a savings of approximately 1 000 MW from industrial, commercial and residential consumers responded to the call for 10% reduction.

“We are doing everything possible to increase our reverse margin by ensuring that we have adequate emergency reserves and returning plant from planned and unplanned maintenance to limit any additional risks,” said Nkosi.

Chief Executive of Eskom, Brian Dames, said while they has been a recovery, the system remains under pressure such that Eskom could re-introduce the emergency should there be any material deterioration in the system.

“We believe that some residential customers may have experienced some power interruption, which we believe were due to localised problems,” he said.

He said at no stage did Eskom implement rotational load shedding.

Residential consumers are called on to switch off geysers, air conditioners, lights and non-essential appliances from 5pm to 9pm.

Residents can contact the Eskom call centre on 0860 037 566 for additional information.
