Diepdale pupils exercise Ubuntu

Pupils practice ‘ubuntu’ by visiting the hospice and spending time with patients.

Grade 10 class of Diepdale Secondary School surprised the patients of Soweto Hospice when they visited them.

The initiative was part of a project called ‘Ubuntu’ by Thandekile Mokoena one of the teachers at Diepdale.

Mokoena said that they were thankful to the hospice for giving them the opportunity to interact with the patients.

The Grade 10 class collected clothes among themselves that they donated to the patients of the hospice.

Thabo Morakane, a pupil, said that they wanted to give the patients the strength to get better.

“We made cards that we read to the patients and encouraged them to keep fighting to get better.

“There were old people that have not seen visitors for a long time and it was heart-warming how grateful they were when we sat with them, talked to them and held their hands,” he said.
