Creecy consoles families of dead pupils

Two suspects were remanded in juvenile detention after their court appearance.

The MEC for Education in Gauteng, Barbara Creecy visited the families of the two girls who were found dead in Dobsonville on Wednesday.

She was joined by councillors, church leaders and a few residents.

Creecy said she visited the families to comfort them and to offer her condolences.

When briefing the media, Creecy said: “It is important that we come here with community leaders to offer support and to ensure that both teens are buried with dignity.”

She confirmed the arrest of the two suspects and said they were remanded in juvenile detention following their court appearance earlier on Friday at the Protea Magistrate Court.

Creecy did not comment when asked whether the killings were for any religious rituals rather, she said people should not take matters into their own hands.

“I think the police are the relevant people to speak on the matter since they are busy with the case,” said Creecy.

City of Joburg’s executive mayor, Parks Tau visited the families on Saturday.

Both families will be offered counselling.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday.
