Awareness day for drug and domestic violence in different areas that Langlaagte Police officers serve.

This pasted Saturday, Langlaagte Police Social Crime Unit hosted a roadshow through the areas they service.

The first stop was in one of the areas that has the highest statistics of domestic violence and drug abuse.

“Riverlea extension has become a hotspot for drug abuse and domestic violence.

This is why we are here, to educate and assuring citizens that the police is there to help,” said Constable Phumi Kraai.

The roadshow included a parade with police vehicles and their sirens through the streets and giving information on drugs and domestic violence.

The campaign was supported by The Department of Community Safety and Langlaagte Police Station.

“Stop and talking to citizens is vital in the scourge of crime and drugs,” said Kraai.

“Education will decrease statistics, I believe that if we educate our people crime and drug abuse would drop,” said Danny Du Preez chairperson of the Community Police Forum in Riverlea.

Not all residents were very receptive to having the police telling them about drugs and violence.

“We don’t want to know about the drugs, let’s talk about corruption that happens at the police station,” said Cheryl Adams.

Residents said that there isn’t a drug problem in their area and claim that the police are ‘blowing it out of portion.’

“There isn’t any drugs here in Riverlea Ext, the police like blowing things out of portion,” said Corien Van Zyl.

“Communicate between the police and citizen’s needs to be improved and trust needs to be gained again,” said Kraai.
