Residents urged to donate clothes

Plead for donations as orphans are in need.

SEPHIMA, Dlamini and Chiawelo residents are urged to donate clothes and books to orphanages in their areas rather than dumping them at illegal dumping spots.

The plea come after lots of dumping spaces in these areas are filled with books and unwanted clothes thrown by some residents when they bought new ones.

Department of Social services spokesperson in Region G Thelma Ndou said through their research, they have found that many people still throw away clothes instead of donating to the needy.

“It is painful as a parent to see children suffering out there without food or clothes to wear while there are majority of people who still throw away clothes at illegal dumping areas and inside rubbish bins.

“As the mouth piece of the needy in the society, we urge residents to please start considering donating, there are many centres with many children and elderly people registered there and they need such donations.

“So instead of throwing clothes away, we encourage them to pack the clothes and books inside and a bag and as soon as it is full or enough, then can take it to their nearest orphanage centre.”

Tswaranang Drop In Centre Manager Dora Shabangu said: “To us as orphanage centre managers there is nothing as old clothes or out of fashion clothes, anything that we receive is of a great value to us and our children.

“So we also appeal to donors to not forget us when they want to donate clothes, food and books for our beneficiaries.”
