CPF calling on volunteers

Sector one volunteers needed

Sector one is calling on volunteers to make their neighbourhood a safer environment as the CPF.

The major problems faced in sector one are robberies and cable and water meter theft.

“As patrollers we do searches for drugs and weapons,” Haroon Amien, head of Sector one CPF.

Anything illegal found will be booked in at the police station.

CPF are issued with identity cards and Amien says that residents shouldn’t allow anybody claiming to be CPF to search them without an identity card.

Patrollers are working on putting an end to walking in streets after 10pm and if residents are found, it will be considered as loitering.

“As a community you need to take charge of your area.

“You are the ears and eyes for the police,” Amien said.

He encourages residents to fight against crime by volunteering as a CPF. Females are welcomed to join, they are also need if searches have to be conducted.

“All we ask if four hours of your time,” said Amien.

The Sector one CPF held a project last year where a street committee was formed and each street had patrollers, there was a dramatic decrease in crime during the project.

“We also need as many volunteers as we can get because winter is approaching and criminals use the longer hours of dark it to their advantage,” he said.
