Pre-paid water meter installation causes chaos

Protesters go on the rampage as they set alight a construction site.

Pimville residents do not want pre-paid water meters to be installed in their houses.

This comes after the building site was burnt by unknown people last Wednesday.

It is still unclear as to who set the building site alight however, what is clear is that pre-paid water installations are not welcomed.

Tensions remained high as residents gathered at an open field in Zone Two to discuss the issue of these installations.

The meeting led to the site being torched.

“Residents are angered by council insistence on continuing with the project even when residents are not happy about it,” said Tshepo Vana from the EFF in Pimville.

After a volatile meeting that held last Sunday showed that people were not happy with what was happening with the installations, the torching of the construction site was imperative.

Ward 22, councillor Lizzy Mabaso at the meeting on Sunday urged residents not to burn government property as they will get arrested.

“I dont know why the community is continuing to burn government property as these acts are illegal,” Mabaso said.

“The situation is getting very tense as no one wants to listen to residents,” says Vana.

He said because residents are being ignored, they get angry and then act out.
