Gogos at the gym face endless challenges

Gym lacks water, electricity, chairs and floor is damaged.

Rachel Smale of the Mothusi Foundation, founded in 2010, says there are still numerous challenges faced by the elderly that need urgent attention.

The aim of the foundation was to urge the elderly to exercise to keep fit and healthy.

Smale says due to lack of sponsorship many of the elderly still have to walk long distances to get to the gym.

The shelter used for the gym activities lacks water, electricity, chairs and the floor is damaged.

“We need transport that will drive all the people who come to the gym and take them back.

She said the foundation needs proper gym equipment, healthy food packs for breakfast and lunch and financial aid since the elderly have to travel to Wits University to attend workshops.

She said they had plans to run sewing projects but lack the machinery.

“We really would appreciate all the help we can get in resolving most of these challenges,” said Smale.
