Inmates register to vote

Three days set aside for inmates to register to vote.

Plans are underway to ensure that all inmates in the country’s prison are registered to vote in this year’s elections.

According to Correctional Services spokesperson Logan Maistry, IEC officials will be visiting all the prisons starting from Wednesday.

“We want to ensure that inmates do get an opportunity to cast their votes,” he said.
The Department of Correctional Services, together with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), had set aside three days for inmates to register — starting from Wednesday until Friday.

The IEC has also set aside two days, 8 and 9 February, for the general public to register or check their status. Registration centres open from 8am to 5pm.
To vote in the upcoming elections, one must be a registered voter aged 18 and above. – SAnews.gov.za
