‘To protect and serve’

Bosmont residents have started the Bosmont Community Policing in the aid to fight the scourge of crime in the area.

The Bosmont Community Police (BCP) has been operating for the past few months in Bosmont.

BCP was started by residents of Bosmont and forms part of the Community Police Forum (CPF) that already operates in the area.

“BCP is there to protect and service the community of Bosmont,” said Abdul Arend chairperson.

Patrolling happens every day with the CPF and BCP in the streets of Bosmont, helping to cease criminal activity in the area.

“Winning the community trust is the most important factor in order for this to be successful,” said Arend.

Social media has become a vital role in fighting the scourge of crime.

“We have started a whatsapp group for residents to join and report and suspicious activity, this is important for residents to join by adding Omar Khan 073 325 1332, please send a message with your name, surname and your address,” said Arend.

BCP has six active whatsapp groups with around 50 people in each group, this has played an important role in communication between the citizen and patrollers.

BCP does not act as a security company but as a structure under the sector policing with the CPF.

“BCP does community services such as using their marked vehicles to guide the funeral procession and community functions,” said Arend.

If you are interested in becoming a patroller, you need to live in Bosmont and must be over 18.

Please contact any of the patrollers or on the whatsapp group.
