Mfikoe attends volitile meeting on pre-paid meter installation

Volatile meeting affects the progress of pre-paid water meter installations in Pimville.

MMC of Infrastructure, Matshidiso Mfikoe addressed residents at a public meeting held at the Pimville Community Centre last Sunday.

The community meeting was to address the installation of pre-paid water meters that have been causing tension among residents and construction workers.

“We need to accept these installations as they will be beneficial to us and our households in the future.

“South Africa doesn’t have sufficient water and we need to conserve the little water that we have and pre-paid installations will help in that regard,” she said.

It was clear that residents did not like what she was saying as there was a lot of disapproval among them.

Ward 22, councillor Lizzy Mabaso said that residents who do not agree with the pre-paid meter installations, should not disrupt those that want them by uprooting those systems from their houses.

“We live in a democratic country and everyone is allowed to choose what they feel comfortable with,” she said.

She said the burning of construction vehicles was not permitted and this would lead to people being arrested for destroying state property.
