Pupils should leave valuables at home

Pupils are urged to be careful when going to and from school

Pupils are urged not to make it visible that they have their cellphones on them.

“Many children who go to and from school get robbed of their phones and sometimes their entire school bags,” said CPF chairman Victor Olivier.

He advises pupils to leave their valuables at home or walk in groups.

“By doing so, you won’t be feeding the habits of drug users,” Olivier said.

If pupils do get robbed, they should try to remember the criminal as much as possible.

“Look for features like tattoos or scars in their (robbers’) faces that will make it easy for you to identify them,” said Olivier.

He also advises pupils to keep the school bags safe because items are being stolen from them while in classroom, in the presence of the owner. If pupils are caught stealing, they will be charged and have a criminal record Olivier said.

“We don’t want our children to have criminal records because it will hamper on them finding a job when they have completed matric,” he said.

Olivier said that there is an increase in theft of belongings from open windows.

“Don’t charge your phone or laptop close to an open window where it is easy for criminals to steal it,” he said.
