German students in Orlando

Exchanged students from Germany are visiting Orlando East as part of the Plan Act initiative.

Exchange students from Germany are visiting Orlando East as part of the Plan Act initiative.

Plan Act uses students from around the world to make a difference in other countries.

For the seven exchang students in Orlando the task is to help curb dumping, assist in identifying heritage sites while creating a tourist route and also closing the gap between Noordgesig and Orlando.

“We have come to learn that the only thing separating Noordgesig from Orlando is a road. However the two communities are still divided.

“We would like to find a way to get the two communities working together and closing that bridge between the two,” said Nuriye Tohermes.

The exchange students also plan to make videos to capture the work that they will be doing.

“We want residents to come on board and assist us in our task.

“We are only here for two months so we cannot do too much in that time, that is why we need residents to join in so that they can carry on when we are gone,” said Finn Bruggmann.

The enthusiastic students are staying with two families who have opened their homes to them.

Sannah Ndlovu, who has exchang students staying with her, said that she would like to encourage residents to work together with the students in making Orlando a better place for all.

If residents will like to get involved in this initiative they can visit the municipal offices during office hours.
