Church gives out food parcels

Church gives parcels to disadvantaged residents.

Residents gathered at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Zone Seven to receive food parcels.

The church has been running Thutong Community Services with the help of Meals on Wheels and caters for the disadvantaged families and the elderly in the community.

Co-ordinator of the project, Jane Mokwena, said there was need for food in many households.

She said the high rate of unemployment makes it difficult for the basic of needs to be provided.

On Mondays to Thursdays, residents receive meals at the church and at times, food parcels.

Recently, Centurion Gate Motors donated food parcels.

An employee the Gate Motors, Rene Ogden, said it was heart-warming to see how people were truly grateful to have received the food parcels.

“It is too awesome, I am even getting goose bumps when I think of all the smiles I saw.”

One of the recipients of the food, Ntebo Dithate, said the food parcels will go a long way.

“It is not easy to provide food to the family when you are unemployed.

“I am grateful to people who want to help the disadvantaged.”

The food parcels contained samp, sugar, soya, mince, beans and peanut butter.
