Top 2013 matriculants congratulated

Top five matriculants of Selelekele Secondary awarded with certificates.

Orlando East Councillors and the Community Policing Forum, Orlando Police, Community development workers, ward committee members and the youth league visited the top-performing high schools in Orlando East to congratulate them and to wish them well in 2014.

The top matriculants of 2013 were also part of the entourage.

The tour started at Bona High School in Orlando East which attained 76.6 % matric pass rate. Ward 30 Councillor Sechaba Khumalo told the pupils that they should focus on their education.

“The late Nelson Mandela said that it is through education that a domestic worker’s child can become a pilot,” he said.

He said they should not be a generation that will rely on government grants and be on the waiting list for RDP housing.

“Get educated so that you can buy your own houses and are able to support yourselves,” he said.

The tour then headed to Herbit Mdingi Adult Center, were the top two matriculants in Orlando East, Revonia Nkomo and Patience Ndlovu, matriculated.

Orlando High School was the best performing school in Orlando East in 2012, but last year they were defeated by Lofentse Girls High.

Top performing pupils in Selelekele Secondary School were:

* Bongumusa Gwaxa, who obtained distinctions in physical science, maths, life science and Geography.

* Patience Ndhlovu obtained distinctions in accounting, maths, economics, business studies and life orientation.

* Thandi Tshazibaiye acquired distinctions in economics, life orientation and Isi Xhosa.

* Tshidiso Mahapa obtained a distinction in accounting, economics and pure maths.

Noordgesig High school attained an impressive 93.9 % for their 2013 matric results.

Each pupil received a certificate and all the top schools received a certificate.
