Mbali Khumalo was late but excited for her first day of school at Emathafeni Junior Primary School in Zondi South.
Mother and daughter were both not sure if they would be allowed through the school gate because it had been closed by the time they got there.
Khumalo was scared that her space had been taken by someone else.
Delisiwe Mabena came to the school the previous day to register Khumalo and was lucky enough to secure a space for her.
“I want to learn as much as I can so that I also become somebody in the future,” Khumalo said.
According to the principal, registrations for all grades including grade R at Emathafeni Junior Primary has been opened since last May but parents are still flocking to register their children even after the first day of school.
